How Much Can Preventive Maintenance Save?

It’s easy to think that if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. But what if a break is on the horizon? Preventive maintenance could catch it before it becomes a costly issue.

But how much can it save you? A study completed by Jones Lang
LaSalle at a large company found that preventive maintenance could result in up to a 545% return on investment (ROI) for the large facility.

The cost of: preventive maintenance, repairs/corrective maintenance, and replacing equipment were all considered in this study as well as how preventive maintenance affects the life expectancy, how often required repairs are needed if not maintained and how preventive maintenance affects energy consumption.

Looking beyond finances, preventive maintenance helps in other areas as well, such as:

Safer for operator and machine
Completing preventive maintenance allows individuals to spot hazard issues that could be on the horizon before they reach that critical point. Catching issues early allows businesses to also fix them before it becomes a larger and more costly repair.

Machine efficiency doesn’t diminish
Let’s say your vacuum’s suction isn’t working as well as it did when you first bought it. There could be a few reasons the machine isn’t working as well as it used to, but it is still working. If it’s not broken, why fix it? Labor costs are why it should be fixed. Labor costs are going up and it is affecting the bottom line (it’s estimated that up to 90% of building maintenance is spent on labor costs).

If vacuuming one area used to take you 5 minutes and now it’s taking 8, that’s more money to cover the cost of the person when the machine is what is causing the slow down.

Equipment lasts longer
We get regular oil changes and tire rotations on our vehicles to ensure their longevity. The cost of new tires or a new engine will hurt any wallet more than the 30 minutes you spend at a mechanic and the maximum $50 to cover the service.

The same goes idea applies for equipment you use to keep your facility clean.
