Cold and Flu Season
Importance of Hand Hygiene
Proper hand hygiene practices are one of the most important ways to help prevent the spread of illness and infection. The above video shows the proper technique for washing hands. Thoroughly washing your hands with water and soap for twenty seconds is recommended.
Other Ways to Help Prevent the Spread of Infection
The CDC recommends:
- washing your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth as this is an easy way to spread germs.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu. Routinely clean frequently touched objects and surfaces including phones and door knobs.
- Keep disposable wipes, soap and tissues on hand.
