How Long Should You Keep MSDS Sheets?

With the switch to SDS sheets, a common question that is being asked is, "Do I need to keep both an MSDS and SDS sheet for the same product?"

OSHA's Hazard Communication 2012 Standard does not currently require older MSDS sheets to be archived as new SDS sheets arrive. However, it is suggested as a good management practice for MSDS sheets to be archived electronically or kept on file, especially if existing stored chemicals were purchased or obtained under the older MSDS.

When you recieve a new SDS sheet, be sure to compare the SDS sheet to the MSDS it is replacing. Take note of any changes or new hazards that might be added in which you will need to train your employees for proper handling.
